Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarships for his parents and a commitment in the local community. The first is the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on an Eufala farm. A second reason was his father was the only of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award for being the top lineman in America. During his three-year tenure as Oklahoma's starting quarterback The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and won two national championships. He received a third scholarship in 1975. He was also selected as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received a degree in Education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. Then he settled in Tampa after graduation, and was a member of the Buccaneers for nine seasons and made three times all-pro. His career in business began. He was hired in 1988 as an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was not a surprise when, in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of 10 young stars across the nation. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He coached his university team in the year 1975. In 1993, he joined the university of south Florida's sports department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. In 1993, the College Football Hall of Fame named him as a member in the year 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame In 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded their Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
