Taylor
Taylor Swift is that rarest of pop phenomena: one of the most famous stars who successfully fully transition from traditional music to becoming a renowned pop-culture icon and conquering the world in the process. Swift shed her country roots in the manner of a second skin revealing that she was perhaps the smartest contemporary singer/songwriter in her generation one that could tap into popular culture and turn it into something personal while also able to do an opposite. The first songs she released including the neotribute of Tim McGraw were a testament of her ability. But, her follow-up album Fearless was released in 2008 and showed her as an artist who found her voice as well as a wide fan base. The album was hugely successful not just in America, where six of its singles were certified platinum in the wake of Top Ten hit songs Love Story and Belong with Me. But it was also a huge hit across the globe. Speak Now delivered almost two years later and consolidated this success and moved Swift towards the top of stardom. Her popularity only increased over the next three albums - -Reputation (2017), Red (2012) and 1989 (2014) Red (2012) 1989 (2014), and Reputation (2017) and Reputation in 2017 and found her moving assuredly into the realm of pop in which she was already a part. She continued to be at the highest of the pop charts even as she reduced her sound through her albums with folklore in 2020 and Evermore.
